For anyone wondering what reservation rewards is, here it is. Reservation rewards is a company that thrives on tricking you out of your money, and they know it. You “sign up” for benefits after buying movie tickets online or booking a hotel at one of many websites. The small fee, not more than $10, is charged directly to your account each month; but these fees add up. Good news is, getting your money back is as simple as calling the 800 number that follows. They know that your did not want their service so they should be more than willing to give you a full refund of your money. If they offer any resistance to your request, try bring up the state attorney general and see if they don’t give the refund.
The other day I received a statement from a bank account that I no longer use. I haven’t used this account in several months because I switched to a different bank, but still receive information on the old account. Opening the statement I discover that my account has been charged a $10 fee for something called reservation rewards. The charge was for last month but I knew I hadn’t used the card. This peaked my interest and was cause for further investigation.
Today I checked my online banking to discover two recent charges both for $10. That’s $20 total that has mysteriously disappeared from my account. Conveniently an 800 number (800-723-7031 in case you were wondering) was attached to the description of the charge. When I called the number I was greeted by a recorded message that routed me to a customer service rep. He informed me that my reservation awards account was started through a “special promotion” at movietickets.com over a year ago! I told him I’d like to cancel my account and without even prompting, he offers me a refund of the two charges. He told me that $20 will be back in my account in 3-5 business days, I was satisfied and ended the call.
After checking back through my bank records, it seemed that I had not won yet. I found the description, RESERVATION REWARD800-7327031 CT appeared not twice as I thought, but a total of 13 times! The fee was charged right around the 9th of every month without me even questioning what it was. The associate to whom I spoke, lets call him number one, failed to mention I was charged thirteen times, not twice as I clearly stated to him. He let me go believing the company was beaten, not even stopping to tell me they still had over $100 of my money.
I call back yet again, bank records in hand. Associate number two clicks on the line and asks how she can assist me. I inform her that my account had recently been canceled and that I would like a refund on the entire amount the company had taken from me. She was more than happy to issue a refund of the ENTIRE amount, again in about 3-5 business days. Being a little upset at this point, I decided to ask her for interest on the money her company had been borrowing from me, “unfortunately they were unable to offer that at this time”.
All in all I’m satisfied with the result, but I’m thinking about contacting the State Attorney General about the company. They’ve got to be doing this to a lot more people, but who actually reports it? What this “company” is doing isn’t legitimate, it’s a scam. They trick you into signing up for a month of their service, then bank on the hope that you won’t notice the membership fees when they start. I’ve heard that this company has gone through Expidia as well as several other websites, so be careful buying online!
